A Sunny January Saturday in Connemara

Waking up in sunny Salthill

Laura waking up in sunny Salthill

So last Saturday, I finally picked up the camera again.

Gathering dust since the summer, its first major outing since then was to beautiful, rugged Connemara in the west of Ireland – the poor ol’ Nikon deserved a treat!

The photography Gods were smiling on us as we got a fine, sunny, rain-free day – rare enough at the best of times, never mind January!

These photos are ordered chronologically from first light to last light, or from our Salthill base in the morning to the sunset in Connemara.

They show our stop offs on our way to Connemara National Park, which were made randomly, when we liked the look of something… and I liked the look of a lot of reflections!

And then they show, when we got to the park, the hike up Diamond Hill and back down again, as the sun set on a great day.

Stopped here while driving by, hopped a fence, tip-toed through a very marshy field looking for tufts of steady tufts of grass to get to the water's edge. Feet got wet. Fell on my arse. It also got wet. Totally worth it!

  1. So very beautiful, Conor. I love the little blue & white rowboat along side the shore. Lovely, calming images. Thank you for sharing! ~amy

  2. Wow, beautiful photos! The other day I was going through the list of blogs I follow, weeding out ones I no longer read, and I came across yours which reminded me that I hadn’t seen posts from you in a while. It was nice to see these lovely photos pop up in my WordPress Reader today.

  3. Wow, great pictures, of that amazing landscape. Thank you Conor.

  4. Beautiful. I need to get out with my camera again. These photos inspire me to do it! :)

  7. Well I’m glad you woke up the spiders that had been sleeping in your camera and chased them off so you could get out and grab these terrific shots!

  8. Welcome back Conor. I wondered where you went. Your photos are as beautiful as ever. Last summer my husband and I spent two weeks in Ireland, mostly in Dublin but we did make a trip to Westport and two day trips to Howth and Malahide. We had the best weather, a real heat wave by Irish standards.

  9. Wow, great photo set! Thank you for sharing, sir.
