Dominick Street “Regeneration”

I was walking through the city centre recently when I came across some work on Dominick Street, which is just off Parnell Street.

Some of the flats there were being demolished as part of a long-overdue “regeneration” plan for the area so I stopped briefly and took a couple of snaps.

You can read Dublin City Council’s Executive Summary of its plan for the area here.

This overview of the plan is from the Dublin City Architects Blog

The matter was last raised in the Dail in June

  1. I could tell you stories about that area!

  2. I like the way you captured the sky in the 2nd picture. Looks like its sad for the building to me 🙂

  3. G Conor! These are absolutely stunning!
Every picture is even better than the one before!

  4. I read the links and plans, looks like it will be a nice upgrade.

  5. Good eye to spot and come back with excellent images of these scenes Conor!

  6. The 2nd picture is sad, yes, but the emotional power in the pictures is just draining – its a ripping apart of the whole 1970s, and before, some fairly ugly decades really, even with our personal memories. That rippng down seems the final memento.

  7. Northern Narratives

The second photo is stunning but the third photo really catches my eye. There is something about that chimney, how it rises up around the debris.

  8. Really nice black and whites

  9. Wonderful to regenerate a run-down area, but even then I find a certain sadness in breaking down buildings that have been standing for many years…

  10. Dominick Street indeed needed a total overhaul and wow… your pictures of it rock Conor! Stunning once again!

  11. There’s something beautiful about a half-demolished building, and you’ve captured that brilliantly! 🙂

  12. Powerful images beautifully captured at just the right moment.

  13. I am over commenting again..hehe..but I love these shots Conor – small fragments of lives left hanging on threads..I find the different coloured walls so moving too..and on a different and surreal level I can almost imaging someone coming out through one door with a bath towel on or something and saying, “What the hell happened here?!”

    • Ha! I know exactly what you mean. It’s the glimpses of the interior that really evokes images of the life there. And I really appreciate the feedback, there’s no such thing as over-commenting 🙂

  14. I like the HDR!
Q: How do you manage to stay organized with all the photos you take?
